Center-based or in-home ABA: how to decide

We offer both, and both are one-on-one and designed by a BCBA. The right setting depends on your child’s goals, your week, and what is open near you.

How the 2 settings compare

Our clinics and in-home program offer different settings for care. Here is how they compare at Training Wheels ABA.

When a clinic may fit better

A clinic may be the better starting point when:

  • The drive fits your week and you can keep it up
  • You want your child practicing skills in a place away from home
  • Home is busy, or a quiet space is hard to set aside
  • Your child enjoys room to move and play equipment

When home may fit better

Home may be the better starting point when:

  • The goals that matter most come up in daily home routines
  • A regular drive would be hard for your family to sustain
  • New places are very hard for your child right now
  • You have a space at home where sessions could happen

These are starting points for a conversation. Your child’s assessment and your BCBA’s recommendations carry more weight than any list.

5 questions to help you decide

  1. Which skills matter most right now, and where do they come up?
  2. Where does your child settle most easily?
  3. Which routine could your family keep up every week?
  4. Who would be home during sessions, and who else would be in the house?
  5. Which options are open now for your address and your plan?

Common questions

Is in-home care available at my address?

Availability varies by neighborhood and schedule. Please call and ask about your address.

Can we change settings later?

Please ask our intake team or your child’s BCBA. The answer depends on your child’s plan, your coverage, and what is open at the time.

Can my child do both?

Please ask intake which options are currently available for your child.

Does insurance treat the settings the same way?

Coverage, benefits, and authorizations vary by plan. Please ask your plan and our intake team what applies to each setting.

Not sure which setting fits?

Tell us about your child and your neighborhood, and ask what is open.
